*AVS-Address Verification Service: AVS is now a requirement. Otherwise, penalty fees can be assessed for credit cards transaction not utilizing AVS. Furthermore, failure to implement AVS in the case of fraudulent purchases can result in chargebacks.
** Chargebacks: Normal Refunds/Credits issued by the merchant to the customer are not chargebacks.
Chargebacks defined:
Merchant's credit card merchant bank, not the merchant, issues a Refund/Credit to the customer and a Penalty Fee to the merchant.
Normally, disputed transactions are communicated to the merchant by the customer, and the dispute is quickly resolved through refund/credit, and no chargeback is incurred. A chargeback situation typically occurs when a merchant is not notified of a disputed transaction. The customer has placed the transaction into dispute with his/her own credit card issuing institution. However, the merchant is not properly notified of the dispute and is thereby denied an opportunity to resolve the dispute directly by offering a refund/credit.

Typical Chargeback Risk Situations:
- unrecognized merchant name on customers end of month credit card statement.
